A very interesting source, not only for its content, but also because it shows how an evolutionary framework influences our thinking about all aspects of (human) life. I’m still not sure whether Daniel Dennett is right in claiming that natural selection is a ‘universal acid’ that deteriorates our existing understanding of the world, and the values we hold dear. But it certainly seems that an evolutionary perspective offers the clearest view in town to see how things came to be.
Question: Will an evolutionary perspective be sufficient when we want to go from knowing ‘how things came to be’ to ‘how they ought to be’? Or is that the topic where science, philosophy and theology should meet?
