Virginia Heffernan: A Creationist Against the Creationists
Huffington Post
One of Heffernan’s stranger moments is her dismissal of Darwinian evolution.

Tom Uytterhoeven’s insight:

For a European public a US politician coming out of the closet as a creationist seems (a) nothing new ("Oh, one more of those weirdoes?") and (b) not very relevant ("What are our own politicians up to? Raising taxes again?"). But that’s not entirely justified, as this article shows.

As the author argues, the interaction between theology and science is very important. It fulfills a basic need for people today in enabling them to live a meaningful life.

We need good science to understand the way our world works, on all levels. But we also need good theology, to help us make good choices when we assess our information about the world (or our lack thereof). As pope John Paul II once wrote: "Science can purify religion from error and superstition. Religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes."
